A New Sink!

I hope you won't mind me sharing in my excitement...but I have a new sink!!! It's a super heavy cast-iron that is simply beautiful! It's deep and just perfect for this mama who does all dishes by hand!

Our old sink...no matter how much I scrubbed and cleaned it, it would just not ever truly look clean. It was very frustrating! Plus it was so shallow as well as put too far in from the edge of the counter (the owners before us had a dishwasher under there..thus the reason for the shallow sink and it being so far away from the edge...the dishwasher didn't work well and I really didn't like it so Chris removed it, years ago, for me)...

As I mentioned before, this new sink is really heavy...75 pounds of heavy! We were so blessed to have a good friend of ours offer to come out and help to put it in place and such!

Chris had to cut the spot for the sink, a little larger...

There it is...placed in there but no sealant yet or plumbing hooked up...

My new sink...all in place (I can't wait to use it!)...

  3. How lovely, and I agree, much more practical for dish washing. It will be nice to see the photos of it in your days at home. But may I say that I always thought your old sink quietly spoke volumes about your servant's heart for your family?

  4. It does not take much to make us girls happy, does it? That would be huge for me. I really am excited for you.

BTW, Katy, your music is absolutely beautiful...so soothing.

  10. Love the new sink! I really enjoy doing dishes by hand, but like you we have the shallow sink and that makes it a bit tough sometimes. Enjoy it! Blessings Lisa Marie

  11. Katy, I didn't want to come across on facebook as not being appreciative of my sink that is similar to yours. I think if I would have gotten one like yours it would have been better. I am very thankful for what I have and very appreciative that my hubby got it for me when he did. Sorry again.

  12. Katy, I know you will enjoy your new sink--it looks so nice. I have one similar and the only problem is pot marks. I found that the eraser--can't remember if it is Clorox or what. It is white and shaped like a sponge and does a great job with these marks. This sponge is also good for marks on the wall.
    Love ya!

  15. Oh I just LOVE that sink! Those truly are the best sinks! I wash all of our dishes by hand since our dishwasher doesn't clean them well enough. I still get use out of my dishwasher by using it as a drying rack so it can serve some purpose for us. As we live in an apartment we can't remove it, and it saddens me to have things with no use. I read your blog regularly although I haven't had the chance to say hello yet. My name is Tori. I hope your family is well, and hope all goes well for Jaxson's surgery. We have been keeping him in our prayers.

  16. If you wash all of your dishes by hand with a young family, you certainly need a sink that 'fits'! It's very pretty, especially with the color of your countertops!

  17. I wouldn't mind washing dishes all day if my sink is as gorgeous as yours. :> It matches your red countertop perfectly. And I must say, you made a nifty choice in installing a deep sink. This type of sink can fill a larger pot or other items with water easily. It can also prevent droplets of water from reaching the wall or floor. A deep sink also allows a larger basin for washing or rinsing dishes.

  18. The weight of that sink only shows how tough it is. It will last for more years to come, and could serve its purpose more if it’s well maintained. The size, on the other hand, shows its efficiency for it can accommodate a lot. I guess no greasy plates and utensils can escape that bulky sink of yours. Congratulations for having it! =)

  19. Me, too, Tyrone! With a sink like that, I wouldn’t mind washing the dishes every after meal. Haha! The sink happens to be the heart of the kitchen, so it is only important to choose the right type that will be very useful for you. From the looks of it, it’s like an apron type of sink. Apron sinks have more depth than a typical kitchen sink, and they will last for a lifetime.

  20. Wow! Your new sink is awesome! Your kitchen looks brand new. Make sure to always keep it clean! With proper maintenance, your new sink will last long, with no problems at all. Who wouldn't want to wash dishes with that sink? Isn't that awesome?

  21. I don’t think you’d never have to worry with your pretty little head about the same concern as with your old sink – cleanliness. Stainless sinks infallibly provides a clean look. Taken from its name, stainless simply doesn’t stain. These are actually commonly considered for kitchen remodel since stainless sink is the best option for a sleek and modern appearance.

  22. It’s really a blessing to have someone in your house that knows how to do repairs! Even if your new sink is not installed by professional plumbers, it looks good and it fits perfectly. Your kitchen looks fresher and cleaner, thanks to your new kitchen sink!
