The Freedom of Grace

Among the numerous books I am reading is one called Future Grace by John Piper. It is a fantastic book....so much biblical truth! It helps us to see what living by faith really means. If you are a true child of God, born-again with His Spirit living in you, then I have much to share with you. If you aren't a follower of Jesus Christ, repent of your sins and believe the gospel! When your heart is truly changed, it's time to know the height and depth of His love for you.

What is grace? It is God's unmerited favor. His favor....given freely to His children because of nothing they have done! Can that even be fathomed...? Favor of a most holy God? Wow!!

"Grace is free because God is jealous to be seen as an inexhaustible fountain of self-replenishing life and power and joy...He is always the benefactor and we are always the beneficiary. He is never constrained by what He has made. He remains free. This is what it means to be God."

~John Piper, Future Grace *all quotes in this post are his* (emphasis mine)

Wrap your mind around these glorious words of truth. God is perfection. He is almighty, never-failing, everything good and wonderful and just. He is always the Giver...nothing we do can stop Him from His will. His grace and love are free (and never-ending)....given to His people, pouring from the Ultimate Giver Himself. We have done *nothing* to be worthy of it.

"God made us alive and secured us in Christ so that He could make us the beneficiaries of everlasting kindness from infinite riches of grace. This is not because we are worthy. Quite the contrary, it is to show the infinite measure of His worth."  (emphasis mine)

Do you realize this ever-important, vital truth? He made us alive. Christ secured our eternal home and unspeakable joy. Eternal....never-ending. That's a long time! And He did this *not* because we chose Him....or not because we are good enough....but because of Who He is! He is infinitely worthy and wonderful...and *that* is why true Christians can know that no matter your circumstances in this world, our true home lies with Him...and there is *nothing* better!

Many Christians do not realize the fact that they didn't *choose* God. You have faith only because He opened your eyes to it. Many believe that because they have faith, they are regenerated. Not so, not so. In truth, it is because you are regenerated that you have faith! It's all Him! Are you one of His elect? Do you seek Him and desire to please Him and know Him more? Where do you think that desire comes from? ;)

"Grace would not be grace if it were a response to resources in us. Grace is grace because it highlights God's own overflowing resources of kindness. Grace is eternal because it will take that long for God to expend inexhaustible stores of goodness on us. Grace is free because God would not be the infinite, self-sufficient God He is if he were constrained by anything outside of Himself." (emphasis mine)

That last sentence explains it all. Our God is sovereign and great. He is not held back by anything. If you have ever read Job (in the Bible) you will remember that Satan had to ask permission to do things...Satan is NOT God's evil equal. He is a created being. God is also not constrained by us.

Sit back and marvel with me, friends. Our infinite, most holy Creator is in charge. He is in control and although times, circumstances, difficulties, and persecution will come...know that He is always doing things for your good and His glory. Does this always mean you will be saved from death or suffering? No....for truly, our ultimate good is in Him...and to be with Him forever. But when you set your worries and cares to Him and realize His grandeur and omnipotence...it makes you feel a true sense of peace!

"For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God."
 Ephesians 2:8 ESV

I hope you have found encouragement here...and maybe even learned some things. As always, if you have questions, comments, concerns or anything...please, always feel free to email me or comment below! I never tire of conversing with you!

And before I go...just a few photos of *life*....

And I leave you with this to read and revel in as you go....

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,  even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
Ephesians 2:4-5

  1. Yes, indeed! I am thankful for the richness of His grace in my life. Thankful that I can do nothing to be deserving. It's all Him.
