"A thankful heart...

...is one of the primary identifying characteristics of a believer. It stands in stark contrast to pride, selfishness, and worry. And it helps fortify the believer's trust in the Lord and reliance on His provision, even in the toughest times. No matter how choppy the seas become, a believer's heart is buoyed by constant praise and gratefulness to the Lord."

~John MacArthur

Good morning! It's an absolutely beautiful day here in Pennsylvania! The skies are blue and the sun is shining! It's chilly outside but not bitterly cold....so just a wonderful day! We are back to our schooling routine after 5 days off for Thanksgiving (although two of those days were the weekend...it was still a nice break)! It's nice to get back to our routine though!

We had an enjoyable time of Thanksgiving (first a couple Sundays ago with Chris's family and then on Thanksgiving Day with my family). It was so nice to get together with loved ones and talk, laugh and eat.

Speaking of eating...that pie pictured at the top of this post...? It wasn't made by me! Jaxson (my soon-to-be 12 year old) made it! He loves to make pie and I think he did a great job!! I made mashed potatoes and baked corn for the meal with my family. It's incredible....everyone makes a lot of food to feed a lot of mouths and somehow we still end up with an enormous amount of leftovers! It makes me cringe though to think of this amount of food we had available to us and yet there are people across the world who don't. We should never ever cease thanking God for His love, care and provisions for us as well as continually reaching out to serve others (Chris's parents spend their Thanksgiving cooking at their church to serve others who don't have a place to go! Isn't that wonderful!?)

The Friday night after Thanksgiving is "Light Up Night" in our town. There is always a parade. My dad drives one of his trucks through and we decorate it beforehand. You may remember me blogging about this in years past. This year was much the same. Although the lights make the pictures look warm and cozy...don't be fooled! It was *cold*!!! I had fingerless gloves on (as I can't take pictures without my fingers being free) and I was in pain!!! I guess next year I'll plan on wearing full gloves and just taking them off when I need to take pictures! The picture above is me with my cousin Mariah. Below are pictures of my dad's truck (there were a lot of people at the parade so I took the pictures before they actually got near the crowds so I could actually *see* the truck! haha!)...

Here is my *one* Christmas decoration....haha. I love wreaths of all kinds. This one needs lowered a bit more to be centered more in the window of the door....I just haven't done that yet...

Each night, I am grateful to get to climb into my bed (which was given to us by my mom's parents! I so love this bed!) and spend some time in God's Word. Daily Bible reading is a *must* for me. No matter how late it is...if I haven't spend time in God's Word earlier in the day...I do before bed. (I am not a huge fan of reading in the morning as it makes me tired and struggle to get my day started.)

So that's all for now....I need to get groceries today. I've been scurrying around getting things done around the house this morning. It was nice to get to sit for a few minutes and write out this post. Now that it is officially deer season ~ things will be busy, busy, busy at my in-loves' meat market for the next month! Which is a busy season for my husband (as well as me and the children when we go down to help). Taking some time to sit and just write for a while does this gal good! :)

I hope your days are joy-filled and with continual glory-giving unto our great God! There is no one like our God and He deserves all our praise and worship! :) Thanks so much for taking a bit of time to stop by! Until next time, Lord willing....

In all cheerfulness,
Katy

  1. Yes, it is a beautiful day in Pennsylvania!
The quote you shared at the beginning of your post spoke to me today.
    I struggle with worry.
I will look to this as a reminder to replace it with thankfulness.
    Thank you for that!
My 15 year old got a nice four point yesterday...
    Deer season has begun!
    Have a cozy day. : )

  3. Katy, hope this does not publish in duplicate or triplicate as computer keeps kicking me out! Ha! Sounds you had a nice Thanksgiving to stretch over several days with all sides of your family. We went to my sister's house and I thought, what a vacation - I only need to bring some sides and the pumpkin pie. All was well and the pie was cooling on the kitchen counter, then I got a phone call from a long distance friend, so I barricaded the kitchen with chairs so our 90 lb dog could not get in there. I finished the call and came back to the kitchen to see all chairs mysteriously moved out of position, then holding my breath as I rounded the corner to see the ENTIRE pumpkin pie gone, pie plate licked clean and 1/2 of the cork hot pad chewed off, to boot. Asher (which is Hebrew for happy and fortunate one, which he apparently was the night before Thanskgiving) ate the ENTIRE pie. Luckily, I had the ingredients on hand to bake another one at midnight. LOL! We will never forget this Thanksgiving. Perfect weather here in coastal VA as well...planted my pansies and took Ash on a long walk /run, so he would not dream about counter surfing again - LOL! Take care, Paige

    1. Oh my goodness gracious!!! HAHAHA! That is so funny...and awful! How frustrating! My aunt...who is a big dog lover/owner says her boys love pumpkin. I guess your pie was just too tempting for Asher! So glad to hear you are having great weather there too though!! :)

  4. Katy, not sure what's happening...tried commenting 4 times ...then when I hit "preview" forced me to create a profile on Google (?) This is Paige...had a funny Thanksgiving story but too long to type for the 4th time. Maybe now that I have a profile the comments will be easier in the future. Did you change a format or something? Or maybe it is my computer karma -- odd things happen to computers and me. Lovely post! Paige
