Created To Be His Help Meet.

So I finished the book "Unveiling Mary Magdalene" by Liz Curtis Higgs....super good book and I recommend it highly!!! I won another book called "Created to Be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl from a giveaway at The Adventures Of MomLady. I started reading it yesterday and so far I like it and it has convicted me and made me realize a lot. I have already been praying about things that I notice I fail in with my marriage.

I must admit, though, I am a little on guard with this book...I have heard and read a few negative things about it. I will continue to read it though...and last night, I prayed that God would help me to discern of anything not of Him in the book and to let me learn from things that ARE from Him in the book. So far, I am only like, 50 pages into it, I think....and I am liking it. I was wondering if any of you have read it. I would love to know your opinions on it if you have! (good or bad!)

I have also been reading "The Postcard" by Beverly Lewis. (I usually read a fiction and non fiction book at the same time). I am about 100 pages into it or so...and of course, loving it. I think I love ALL of Beverly Lewis' books! LOL's Thursday... Weigh In Day for me!!! WOOT! I hope I have lost more!!!! Cross those fingers!!!! :o) I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful day!!! xoxo

  1. Good luck on you weigh in, I really need to do something, I need to lose so much and I don't have time to or the money to do something like Jenny maybe WW online would work for me.

  2. I just put "The Parting" and "Forbidden" by Beverly Lewis on hold at the library. I hope to get them soon. I love her books. Wanda Brunstetter is another great Amish writer. Have you read any of her books? Hope you have a great day.

  3. wow, I wish I read half as much as you do!

Good luck on weigh in tomorrow!

The faith necklace is in my Etsy store if you're interested :)

  4. Hi Katy, Im not good at reading these days, seems that everytime I start a read I go to sleep. I use to read all the time years ago. I'm cheering for you on the weight loss for this week. I'm cheering for myself as well. Not sure how I'll do because you know I made that lemon pound cake, and it was so delicious. I found myself cutting a very thin slice more that I should have, I'm really upset about it but, I did continue my exercise. Seems like I could try harder to have better self control. Deb

  5. I've read the Created to be His Help Meet too. And when ever I recommend this book to someone I always say... I agree with about 95 % of the book. The Pearls have some legalistic ideals about the Bible (they are KING James Only believers). But overall I think the book can be a wonderful tool to a woman seeking to be a Godly wife. I pray you are able to discern well while reading it.

  6. Hi Katy, Oh!!! I'm so glad I stopped by tonight to read your latest post! I sell "Created to be His Help Meet", but don't have it listed on my web-site yet. Actually, I sold about 4 cases of them. I LOVE that book. It is my number one favorite book for marriage. Yes, it certainly does have its critics, some people outright hate it. I tell people that it 'can' be controversial, and that I 'rarely' agree 100% with anything I read, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater when you don't agree on a point. The vast majority of it is the best you'll ever read. My marriage is SO much better because of it. It is the kind of book that you re-read from time to time. A group of us did a Bible study using it as well. We would all read a chapter a week and get together and discuss it. It was wonderful! One thing about Debi Pearl, she is hard hitting, sometimes the truth is hard, but oh so worth it. :) I gave away a copy of this book for a give away during the blog party.

Keep reading Katy and many, many blessings in your marriage!! :)

  7. Katy,

I have (and have read) Created to Be His Helpmeet. I think it's full of wisdom, as they are with alot of issues, and I, like someone else said, agree with 95% of their material. I've learned you're not going to agree 100% with everyone, so just read it with a discerning spirit and glean from it what applies to you and it will be a blessing!

By the way, I think I read somewhere that you were thinking of homeschooling, or did I? We homeschool and have now for 14 years!

I'm saving you to my favs. Maybe you could check out my blog too...I just started it last's called Country Girl at Home.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Hi Katy!
I've read the Pearl's book too. I agree that it contains a lot of biblical wisdom, but as you already know, we must be discerning and not give too much importance to the opinions of man. As you continue to read, just keep focused on what God says in His word and you can't go wrong!

  9. Hey Katy!!! I have so missed visiting your site! It is always like a breath of fresh air. I have read Created to be his helpmeet and I really liked it. It really made me make some changes in my marriage. I think there were a few things towards the end of the book that I didn't really agree with, but overall it was a great and eye opening book.

  10. That's on my list to read! I even bought the prayer journal that goes with it. Can't waot to get started on it! I'm still working on my martha peace book.

  12. Katy,

Had to stop by and see your opinion of the book. I felt much the same way you did....mostly good, but watching out for anything that doesn't match up to The Word. When I held the giveaway, I thought quite a bit about posting any opinions of my own, but decided to let the entrants (and winner) make up their own minds without any preconceived ideas.

Glad you're getting good things out of it. That was my prayer.

    God bless,
    The Adventures of MomLady
