Meet Ellie

My parents have owned horses since I was in high school. My mom loves them (and my dad is an animal lover all around). Today, the children and I were fortunate enough to be able to go out to her house when their newest love joined the family! Meet Ellie (don't mind her ungroomed-self...these pictures were taken just after she arrived and hadn't been brushed out!)!

Cowboy, Jasper, and Boone weren't sure what to think when she arrived...

We put her in the round pen...

We all enjoyed getting to know her. She is sweet and gentle...

Riding bareback...

Look at her sweet face!

Madelyn...

 Xavier rode a couple times...

Jaxson...

They introduced Jasper (the pony) to her first. Jasper liked showing her that "he" was in charge...

My parents' beautiful home (wait till those trees out front blossom! It's gorgeous!!)...

I posted this to share with everyone...but my main purpose was to show Ellie to my nieces Eloise and Dinah! :) They don't live right near us so I wanted them to get to see her here until they get to town to visit!

I hope you enjoyed seeing photos of Ellie! I wish you could meet her in person...she is such a sweet thing! She'll get lots of love from all of us!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Warmly,
Katy

*Spring Things*

The grass is now green and the flowers are (slowly but surely) growing! Trees are budding and the temperatures are getting warmer! It's absolutely lovely that spring is here! Here are a few of the *spring things* we have been up to...

Chris has been carving me spoons to use in the kitchen! Aren't they amazing!? He may make some to sell in my etsy shop as well! :)

He made a beeswax/mineral oil concoction that he will use to cover the wooden spoons. He also tried his hand at making a couple beeswax candles!

You know how *spring* weather can be....one day: sun, the next: snow (thankfully, it melted!)...

We're finishing up our homeschool year! Only a few *official* days to go! Although, learning is something that happens daily with children. :)

I am attempting my first-ever crocheted afghan. I love knitting (and the "look" of knitted items)...but knitting an afghan would take a super long time. I like being able to try out different crochet patterns and I thought this ripple blanket would be a good project for me...

Saturday, we got some much-needed things done around the house. We planted some seeds to transfer to the raised garden beds later this spring...

We have broccoli, peppers, red and white onions and celery started...

We started lettuce seeds too!

Cash loves being out and about with us...

A man and his dog...

Pearl helped X clear out the raised beds...

As I had posted previously, our dryer died (after 15 years of use). We have a new one coming later this week. Until then, I am thankful for sunny days when I can get clothes out on the line! We had a few very cold, wet days and it forced us to take a couple loads of wash to the laundromat to dry. I am so thankful that the dryer gave out now rather than in the winter. I prefer to hang clothes out to drying them in the dryer anyway! :)

Cashers...

My hosta is starting to shoot up....as well as my day lilies, daffodils, and other pretty things around the house. I had to transplant some of the day lily plants as they were spreading too thick in an area and needed moved. :) I will be sure to share photos as soon as all these lovely things are in full bloom. My cherry tree (that we planted last year) is budding! I cannot wait for it to continue to grow and bloom! I think it will be so beautiful!

Much has been on my heart lately...with personal things, the persecution of Christians around the world, sickness of loved ones, and a desire for unbelievers to come to a true knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Prayer, prayer, and more prayer is needed at this time (and all times, really).

I have bread rising for tomorrow morning and eggs cooling after being hard-steamed (I steam my fresh eggs to "hard boil" them rather than actually boiling them...it makes it easier to remove the shells). I am going to tidy up the kitchen and then head to bed. Tomorrow will be a full, busy day. Schooling, housework, exercise, and more! :) Hope your week is enjoyable!

Warmly,
Katy

*A Beautiful Day in Spring*

Saturday was a gorgeous spring day. The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect and it enabled us to get some things done around our home! I am so thankful for how our family works together and gets things done. :) Most things happen slowly...as time and money allows...but I am still grateful that our children pitch in and we can all work together on things! :) Here's a look at what a lovely spring day looked like around here!

This is a common outfit you will find Jaxson in if you stop by my house on any given day. I don't get too worried about his crazy attire (unless we are going out and about!)...

We don't use the old wood stove in our garage and the chimney was crumbling so Chris took it down so he could continue covering the roof with metal...

He threw the chimney pieces down and the boys took turns smashing them into smaller pieces...it makes a good fill for the driveway...

Our garage isn't the prettiest building....but we are focused on renovating our house right now (the garage is secondary). We only do things that are absolutely necessary when it comes to the garage (like fixing the roof)...

Pearl was over-joyed to be out and about. She enjoyed the sunshine and being around the family!

Clothes out drying on the line (this beautiful weather is just in time, as our gas dryer has died. We've had it since we were married ~ almost 15 years ago. It has served us well. We need to look for a new one though because if we have a couple rainy days in a row and I can't hang clothes out, the laundry piles up quickly!), a ladder that needs put away and a wagon for leaf-gathering...

A couple pictures of my Ruthie-Girl. This first one is funny as I caught her mid-sneeze!

This sweet pup is my shadow. Wherever I go, she follows. When I go to bed, she goes to bed. She always knows how to make me feel loved! She turned 10 last month!

Pearl found a warm, sunny spot to snuggle down into (right behind my rock wall)...

The children *loved* riding their bikes...

The chickens are loving this weather too! We let them out to free-range a bit each evening before bed...

Pearl was being quite silly and trying to play with Ruthie. Ruth was just trying to get to me (she's not really a spunky I-want-to-play sort of dog)...

Home....our continual work-in-progress (I will have to make sure I take pics once spring is in full bloom and my hosta and flowers have come up! It will dress it all up so much!)...

Supper's served (hamburger stroganoff, homemade noodles and green beans)...
