Garden Growth and Chick Update....

We have had a bit of a break from the immense rain we have been getting lately (many areas around us have experienced terribly flooding!) So the children and I went down this morning to weed in the *big* garden. The plastic is amazing though...it is really helping with the weeds! I weeded around every green bean plant (over 100 of them!) and the corn as well. The children worked at hoeing between the rows.

The corn is growing well...

In the raised beds, my peas have taken off and are growing like (gasp!) weeds!!! :)

Lettuce...

And I also have carrots growing! I didn't think I had any at first, as they took a little longer, but they *are* there! I am so nervous to weed around them though as they are so easy to be pulled out by accident. Here you can see their leafy tops...

The peeps are a-growin' too! The meat chickens only take two months to mature, so even after less than a week, they are a lot bigger than my 16 layers.

They are such dirty little things, there is no denying it. Pretty soon they will be *ugly* (as they get their feathers) but right now...look how cute they are when the huddle together to sleep...

The children and I periodically go out and check on them to refill their food and water...

 Water break!

And here are my layers....they are still retaining their cuteness (for now). But they are dirty little buggers too! ;)

Ruthie can't get enough of watching them. She just sits and stares...

Till I finally say a little: "Hey Ruth!" and she has a seat and promptly gives me her sweet, loving grin (See that mess on the floor? We have had an issue with squirrels trying to get into the chicken scratch and feed ~ oh dear)...

So things are going well around here (except our flooded basement, which isn't too terrible as it is unfinished and old...but still praying for those close to home who have experienced terrible flooding!)...we are keeping busy, as usual. The children's portfolios have been deemed *complete* by the school district so I need to go pick them up and turn in our affidavits and objectives for this next homeschooling year. :)

I hope things are going well for you. :) Thanks for visiting!
Warmly,
Katy

Our Chicks have Arrived!

Our 66 peeps arrived via US postal service today! I got the call and the boys and I ran into the post office where as soon as we stepped through the door, we heard *peep! peep!* coming from a box behind the counter!

Here is how they arrived (half of them...there is another side of this box with the other half)...

We transferred them all to three large boxes. Two boxes for the chicks that will be our meat chickens...

And one box for my laying hens...

They are so incredibly cute...soft, furry and sweet! It's so hard to believe that one day we will eat them! I know that is why God put animals on the earth but they are just soooo cute! :)

Madelyn's been away for about a week...visiting with some of my mom's side of the family in eastern PA (she'll be home on Wednesday! Woohoo! Can't wait to see her!) so only the boys have gotten to enjoy the little peeps (I'm sure though, once Madelyn is home, that she will love on them too!)...

It's been a busy morning and the rest of the day is going to keep me on my toes as well! So off I go! Thanks for stopping by!

Warmly,
Katy :)

Consider...

...the loveliness of a woman who passionately adores her husband, who tenderly cherishes her children, who creates a warm and peaceful home, who exemplifies purity, self-control, and kindness in her character and who gladly submits to her husband's leadership - for all the days God grants her life. I dare say there are few things that display the gospel jewel with greater elegance. This is true feminine appeal.
~Carolyn Mahaney, Feminine Appeal

Isn't that quote so wonderfully put? It is my heart's desire to fulfill my calling as a wife and mother. I know I can never reach perfection this side of Heaven...but I pray that as I continue through my life, striving to live as Christ and gleaning wisdom through reading about other Godly women and mothers through the centuries, that I will be granted more and more holiness and sanctification from God.

He is so good.

The more I scratch the surface of understanding just how *good* He is (which I will never fully comprehend...nor will any of us) the more I realize just how *not* good I am! My heart becomes more and more thankful, with each passing day, of the beauty (and necessity) of Christ's sacrifice for me...He was the perfect Good that took my sin upon Himself so that I could be made righteous in front of a Holy God. I have a relationship with *the* Creator of the universe which I never could have had without Jesus Christ's atonement for my sins!

Do you understand how *huge* this is? This is a BIG deal! THE Creator....Who designs every chain of DNA of every body that is being conceived...Who made the stars, the heavens, the planets, land, seas, oxygen...and every piece of matter that has ever existed...He knows me (small, unimportant me) and loves me...it's unfathomable! I can't even properly express how thankful I am.

Do you know the good news of Jesus Christ? I pray that if you don't know Him, that you will let me share His gospel with you. If you are not His, you are separated from God...let me share with you the Truth! :)

A glimpse outside...

Veggies (especially the peas) are growing wonderfully in our raised beds (the big garden has vegetables growing in abundance as well! I praise God for His provisions! I will be canning later this summer!)...

The girls invaded the outdoor goat pen...

My hosta have gotten a little out-of-hand (my faithful sidekicks, Jack-the-cat and Ruthie are always by my side!)...

I plan on re-doing my rock wall and then putting the manure/dirt pile (that Pearl is standing on in the picture below) there against it and planting flowers...

Mowing, mowing, mowing...If it is a nice day, I am usually out mowing a section of the lawn at some point or another! It is *way* too exhausting to do *all* the lawn on our whole property with the reel mower at one time....so I do sections! :)

A little warrior and his sword...

The children and I went swimming today...I lathered them up in sunscreen...but did not apply any to myself. I am paying for it now as I have gotten a bit of a sunburn on my back and shoulders. I have put some essential oils on it and hope it will change into a tan soon! It was the first time I went swimming in years (as previously I was just uncomfortable being overweight). I found a wonderful modest swimsuit and enjoyed spending time in the pool! :)

It's been a long busy day...It's 9pm here and I am ready to crawl into bed! I have spin class bright and early in the morning, followed by housework, putting together our church worship guide, and then a baby shower! So tomorrow carries busyness of its own...so I need to get to sleep!

If you are doing housework (dishes, folding clothes, dusting etc.) you may enjoy listening to one of THESE videos while you do (I just added a new one today!). You will glean so much wisdom, I promise!

Warmly,
Katy

It's all about Jesus Christ being first....
and second and third and fourth and fifth.
What I'm saying is, don't put Jesus first.
 Jesus is everything.
He's not just first in the rank, He is everything.

Jaxson and I were able to...

...visit these fabulous little gals for the day!

Eloise was quite concerned that Jaxson was climbing a tree! ;)

Dinah just *loves* my camera...I am convinced she will one day be a photographer! ;)

And here is a stack of books that I bought at the book sale I mentioned HERE. I got all of these for a grand total of $6.50! :)

You can't see the title of the spiral-bound cookbook above so I took a photo of its cover here for you to see! Doesn't it look great? :)

It's after 8pm here and I am so tired (I know...that seems silly...but for any new readers, please know I am usually up by 4:30 each morning...just naturally!). After spinning this morning, spending the day at my sister's house, watering plants and mowing...I am plum tuckered out!

Have a great Friday friends!
Warmly,
Katy

**Hey Mitzi, since I don't have your email, I have to ask this way...how did your 5K go with your daughter? :)
