A Day in Early Spring

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
~Charles Dickens

We have been incredibly thankful for the beautiful sunshine that has been shining, bright, these past few days! The days still hold a bit of chilliness...but we'll take it! I have taken advantage of the weather and gotten loads of laundry out on the lines to dry. The children have been outside, playing, as much as they can. When they get too cold, inside they come to warm up and *thaw-out*. Then, back outside they go!

The *girls* have been quite happy that the snow has melted and eagerly go around, de-bugging the house!

The children made a ladder and a rope to swing from...

They also attempted to make a tree house, but realized it wasn't an *easy* project to complete without daddy's help!

Laundry, soaking in the smells of spring air, drying on the line...

Inside, bread rises...

And bakes...

Jaxson, along with his friend *construction puppet*, enjoyed serenading us!

Eggs and homemade toast for supper....

Madelyn and Xavier, jumping on the trampoline...

X is *just* like his daddy. He flips every which way and can just do amazing things!

I am so thankful for the spring days that have arrived. Winter can seem to last much too long, it seems. The birthing of new life, as plants pop through the soil and leaves begin to grow, brings me joy. Putting on clothes or snuggling in quilts that have been washed and line-dried, breathing in that wonderful smell of *spring*, is blissful, really! If you have a clothesline that's not in use, I encourage you to *put* it into use! You will be so, so glad you did!

The skies are blue and the sun is shining, as I type...but it looks as though rain (and maybe *EEK* some snow) may be coming, according to the weather forecast. I may still try to get some laundry out on the line, while it's still nice. I already have some dough rising, to make monkey bread. Schooling and housework will fill the rest of the day!

And lastly, for today, I wanted to share with you the blessing I received in the mail yesterday...

It is an absolutely beautiful, handmade (fabulous quality) bag sent from the extremely generous Lara from Sam Harvey. She does absolutely fantastic work with these bags and sent me one, *just because*. Isn't that incredibly kind!? If you haven't before, you need to check out her shop. Her bags are truly my *favorite*! Thank-you, Thank-you Lara!!!

I'm so glad you stopped by today. I hope you are enjoying your spring days...sunshine does much to lift the spirits, doesn't it? :) Smile much and enjoy your day! xoxo

Kindly,
Katy

A Bit of Change

I decided to change my curtains in the living room (you can see them HERE in the second picture down). Actually, I decided to wash the curtains and once they were down, the light and bright-ness shining through the windows was just fantastic! So I put up valences, instead. I *do* like it this way, although it's hard to get used to since we had the other curtains up for years. The curtains collected dust, easily, as well....so this *change* is clean-feeling and fresh!

Yesterday, my second blog book arrived in the mail. I had too many photos and posts to fit all in one blog book...so I had to order two for my 2010 posts. The first book contains January through July. This book has August through December! (I used a gray cover when I had my 2009 blog posts printed into a book...this year's books are purple)...

Some inside pages....

My children *love* looking through the blog books! Jaxson was excited when I told him a new one arrived in the mail! He loves looking at the pictures and remembering 2010 happenings! :)

Today, I am blessed by being able to watch my 1 yr. old nephew for the day. The children can't wait till he arrives. Madelyn, especially, acts like a little mother to him! ;) It's a beautiful sunshine-y day...blue skies and **cold**. I will be hanging laundry out again today....(I am so glad winter is gone...I so love the smell of the clothes after being out on the line!). Bread needs baked today, as well as some housework. We have done schooling, already, this morning...but learning is a constant process! ;) I am looking forward to a full and joy-filled day. It will also be spent in prayer, for some needs of loved ones.

Thank-you for visiting me, here, today. I hope you are enjoying your week. :)
Warmly,
Katy :)

Organizing, Treasures & More!

This weekend was full and enjoyable for our family! One thing I worked on was organizing and cleaning-out the schoolroom (which isn't really a learning room anymore...it's more of a school-stuff-storage-room. We do our work all together at the dining room table...it really works best for us!). I took down (and out of the room) one of the shelves...which means I had books *everywhere*! I was quite busy! I finished it up yesterday evening...but it still isn't perfect, yet.

The children and I, Saturday afternoon, went to a store I like...full of antiques and old country things. I went with the intention of finding a just-the-right-size table to go between the chairs in the living room. I was thrilled to find *just* what I wanted!

It is just the right size...and even holds some of my beloved books! It has a hand-made slate top that I love...here is a closer look...

I also found a beautiful oil lamp, that I felt fit perfectly into my Mary Engelbreit bathroom...

I mentioned, in my last post, that I received my blog book in the mail. (I am hoping book #2 arrives today!) Many seemed interested in it and asked for a few more pictures! For those who missed it...here is the cover...

One, of many, *contents* pages...

Now, inside...you can choose to have the posts printed just as you have them on your blog or have them make the best use of space with your words and pictures for each post. I chose that way...otherwise, I would have had more pages in my book...which costs more. I believe you can also have the comments printed...but I didn't do that, either.

It does not include your header or sidebar information, in the book. I chose to put my year's header as the front picture on my books.

You can also choose to get a paperback book printed, which is cheaper. I got the hardback book because I felt it would be better protected over the years. :) HERE is the link to the post about the book I had printed from my 2009 blog posts!

I am fighting a bit of a headache today...but have much to do. Although cold, the sky is a gorgeous blue and the sun is shining so I will be getting clothes out on the line. I may do some baking, as well. Schooling and some other housework will fill the day.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Have a great start to the week.
Kindly,
Katy

"Prayer should be...

...the key of the morning and the lock of the night." ~Owen Felltham

Isn't that a beautiful quote? I got it from something I ordered and received in the mail today, THIS book...

It is truly a *wonderful* book! I have enjoyed it, immensely, going through page-by-page when I have had the time, today. If you enjoy keeping your home...you will definitely enjoy this book as well! It is full of wisdom, thoughts, encouragement and ideas! :)

Here is a taste of Mrs. Dunwoody's writing (which she started in 1886 and didn't finish for 50 years...wisdom and advice she had continually written and kept to give her children one day!):

"...home is meant to be lived in, in the fullest, most potentially fulfilling way for everyone in it. That means that every room does not need to be picture perfect and waiting for a perfect display, but rather, each room has a sense of order and calmness to it. The home looks like someone lives there, without appearing messy or cluttered."
~Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping: Timeless Wisdom and Practical Advice, pgs. 8-9

Yes, it is definitely a book worth reading. It includes lots of homemade cleaner recipes, stain removal hints, cleaning tips and so, so much more! Do you have this book? If not, you can get it from amazon for pretty inexpensive! :)

I also received another *treat* in the mail today! One of my 2010 blog books that I ordered is here!! ***If you are wondering... yes, you read that correctly, it's only one of two. The other one should arrive soon. I had to get two, this time, because I had too many pictures than are able to be put in *one* book! So this is my blog book from Jan.-July 2010! (If you are wondering, I get my blogs printed each year as a keepsake/journal of memories. If you would like to do something like this with your blog, HERE is the place I use. It can be quite pricey....but to me, it's worth it to have our memories safe and in a nice hard-bound book!)

Some random photos, from our days, to share...

Madelyn and Xavier made glasses for themselves! Teehee, aren't they cute!? :)

A note from X to mama...

Neatly folded hand-towels (simple things like this give me joy....is that silly?)

Some of Xavier's penmanship...

Jaxson, doing his ever-loved seek-and-find puzzles...

Cleaning jars...

and putting them back on the shelf...

Oh look! It's Daniel Boone! Oh, wait, it's Jaxson! ;)

Spent time in the kitchen this morning...baking and cleaning...

I made honey and oats bread today, for the first time, but for some reason, it didn't rise quite right during the second rising. It still *tastes* good though! ;)

I also made some Butter Pecan Sugar Cookies, from a cookbook I have (I will try to share the recipe, sometime). I made these to take with me to a Women's Fellowship Night at our church, this evening. We'll be watching Pride and Prejudice (I haven't seen it yet...so I look forward to it!)...

I hope you each are enjoying your day. Thank-you to everyone who participated in the Shabby Apple giveaway! I picked the winner at noon, today and posted it HERE and also emailed the winner. They (giveaways) are so fun, aren't they?

So glad you stopped by...please say *hello*! It's always nice hearing from you! Have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Katy :)

"Wheresoever we be, whatsoever we are doing...

...in all our work, in our busy daily life, in all schemes and undertakings, in public trusts, and in private retreats, He is with us, and all we do is spread before Him. Do it, then, as to the Lord. Let the thought of His eye unseen be the motive of your acts and words. Do nothing you would not have Him see. Say nothing which you would not have said before His visible presence. This is to do all in His name."
~ Henry Edward Manning

Homemade macaroni and cheese for lunch, above. Bread below...

A chalkboard note from Madelyn...

Homemade buns to go with...

...egg salad!

On a rainy day, just-washed rugs are dried on a rack in-doors...

Cinnamon rolls (for the recipe go HERE)...

And my latest knitting project, the berry basket dishcloth...

I watched my nephew, most of the day, yesterday. It was just wonderful. He is a little over a year old and such a fun guy! The children, Madelyn especially, enjoyed him so much! I was so thankful for his naptime, as it gave her time to focus on finishing her schoolwork for the day! ;)

My sister, also, brought my niece over to visit yesterday morning! Oh my! What a treat! My *baby-hoggish self* (as Madelyn likes to call me) enjoyed snuggling littlest Eloise, don't worry~Madelyn got to hold her too! ;) It was just fantastic!

Today will be busy with laundry, housework, schooling, errands and baking! It's gray and rainy out...so no out-of-doors playing, today. Knitting and reading will consume freetime! **And, not to gloat, but it's not even 10am, and I have *already* received a beautiful, just-for-me, love note from one of my children! Oh the joys of simple days!

Have a *great* Wednesday!
Joyfully,
Katy
